BOWELS AND BLADDER

Unfortunately with quadriplegia, it's not just our arms, legs, hands and feet that don't function how they used to. It's our ability to automatically remove waste from the body. The bowels and bladder are cut off from the brain too. We will have to explore available procedures and products to manage the dysfunction.

Quadriplegics have “neurogenic” bladders which are considered “spastic". They empty when or if they feel like it. So how do we prevent accidents? How do we prevent retaining too much urine inside?

Because of bowel issues, lack of exercise, and our body's need for fiber and protein, we should be mindful of healthy eating. Spinal cord injury survivors are more likely than the general population to have health problems related to weight gain. Being overweight can make the transfer process more difficult, too.
